Sunday, July 04, 2010

Pictures from the first annual Excalibur Sculpture Foundry Sculpture Show 2010. I was glad to see so many came out and really enjoyed themselves. A lot of work went into gutting and prepping the gallery space for the exhibition. I'm looking forward to next year's show. + read more

Merry Jesus' Birthday

Thursday, December 24, 2009

I was at a holiday party a week ago and one of the guests had brought a delicious chocolate cake as their contribution to the evening's festivities. As we gathered around the cake ready to enjoy it I reminded my friends that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday and should at the least be celebrated as we do any other birthday. At this point I almost felt compelled to jump into the time-honored “birthday song” ("Happy to you...") but was stayed by the misgivings of my other friends. Anyway, It's been an interesting year full of challenges, advancements and surprises. It's not easy being an artist but it's not always terribly hard either. We make what we will of it. I hope that from this season through the next you and I will make the most of it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. + read more

Artists ABC (always be creating)

Thursday, October 15, 2009

What have I gleaned from the countless musicians and performers who have poured out their "acts” in the minute between stops on narrow and shaky NYC subway cars stuffed with largely oblivious commuters? Yes, I stole the first to words and the overall structure of title phrase above from Alec Baldwin's sales rant in the beloved "Glengarry Glen Ross" film. Anyway, I believe this adaption rings true for artists. We should Always Be Creating, whether in an art studio, in an office, or just in our heads. Let every moment and every palatable medium in front of you be an opportunity for an original creation - then dare to share.  + read more

Half sentences...

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

It dawned on me the other day that I think in half-sentences. I go mid-way through articulating/writing out a thought and then lose the words. It's frustrating. Maybe it's a sign than I need to spend more time with a dictionary or thesaurus, or maybe it's just inevitable in the process of trying to bring an amorphous conglomeration of thoughts and feelings into some definite form. + read more

Haha !! You know, me too. I find that if I can vocalize multiple thoughts into a singular, comprehensible statement my mind is at ease with those thoughts. Even if only for a short time. Then the cycle repeats itself !

Ebi!!! I just thought of you when reading an article in my art education class. I'm going to email you about it. I thought your video was beautiful. :) I also wanted to comment on your post about how you find you don't think in complete sentences. I wanted to say that is A-OKAY, and I've read somewhere that it actually means you're a wonderful thinker. It means you have many bits of substances to share all at once and really, the end of the sentence doesn't matter as much as the content/ substance. As long as you have someone to revise and edit your written work, you'll be fine -- 100%. I am very encouraged by the work that you do Ebi! will be emailing you.
